Who 

Outside people or inside people.  People who like talking with people.  Behind the scenes people.  Tinkerers or thinkers.  People who like getting dirty or people who prefer dressing in fine historic attire.  We have something fun for everyone!   


What 

Fun and fulfilling projects and pursuits for St Croix County Historical Society – Octagon House Museum & History Alcove 


When 

Museum complex is open to the public May through October, the first three weekends of December, and one weekend in February.  During the closed season we work behind the scenes doing all sorts of history stuff.   


Where 

St Croix County Historical Society - Octagon House Museum, History Alcove, Shoppe in the Carriage House, and the Garret (research, collections, administration) – all located at 1004 Third Street, Hudson Wisconsin. 


Why 

It will make you and us happy to have your help We need your help saving and sharing history. 


And, How 


Greeters: Welcome visitors, receive and record admissions, share information about tours, experiences, events, shoppe, and history resources and services.   


Shoppe Keepers: Greet visitors, receive and record purchases, arrange merchandise. 

 
Storytellers: Share the history of the Octagon House, Moffat-Hughes Family, and the surrounding area with visitors as tour guides, reenactors, presenters, interpreters, and docents.   

 
Costume Committee: Catalogue, document, research, photograph, maintain, and prepare historic costume displays. 

 
Clothiers: Designing, sewing, and maintaining guide and demonstrator apparel. 

 
Gardeners: Weeding, deadheading, planting, transplanting, and trimming, Mondays weekly from April to October. 

 
Tinkering & Cleaning: Assist with minor repairs, cleaning, and upkeep of the museum complex. 

 
Collections: Conduct research, document, inventory, scan, catalogue, photograph, rehome, relocate, and maintain artifacts.  

 
Educators: Help share history through educational programming. 

 

Writers & PR: Draft articles, assist with editing and design, create content, prepare press releases, help with print materials, videography, and monitor sites.  

 
Volunteer Coordinator: Work year-round with the Museum Director to recruit, train, and retain volunteers. 


Special Events: Help with teas, work the annual yard sale, assist with events like Tour of Homes and Civil War Encampment.
